About Dave Briggs

Acoustic Guitar, Mandolin, Lead & Backup Vocals

Dave Briggs

David Briggs has been playing guitar and performing for nearly 30 years. He picked up the guitar in junior high school, taking lessons from big band sideman Peter Marti. As a jazz player in high school he was one of two regional guitarists selected to the Illinois State Jazz Band.

Although he started in jazz, David was drawn to a wide range of styles, performing as a solo act, and eventually playing in rock, pop, country and bluegrass bands.

David didn’t start singing seriously until college, when he joined the acclaimed Michigan State Singers and later studied voice at the Sherwood Conservatory of Music in Chicago, under the direction of Maria D’Albert. He has written dozens of songs, and in 1995, his pop ballad "Try Honesty" was published in Nashville.

In 1997, David met his wife Jennifer, an accomplished vocalist in her own right, at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and the two have performed together ever since. Although he enjoys their roots based music, David is excited to return to ensemble playing as the newest member of Suburban Folk!
